I was invited to do a workshop at the Werkplaats Typografie, at the end of the week a few of us started to make impromptu connections between objects found in the studio. It started by accident with Jeff showing me a typeface he designed based on a font discovered on the cover of an old green book. Since making the font he found an almost identical font used on a 12" record. This started the way to a cascade of connections, the colours on the record cover matched those on a box of drinking chocolate. The search began to form a line/trail of connections using colour, form and material to link from one object to the next. The trail was filmed on a digital camera in a dark studio, each part was light with an Angle Pose lamp carried along the trail. The work is influenced and connects to both the Loose Association lecture/text by Ryan Gander and visually to the CD cover for Momus: Otto Spooky, by James Goggin. Thanks to the following collaborators from the Werkplaats: Jeff Ramsey, David Bennewith and Enrico Bravi The five short Quicktimes present the trail in its entirety, when viewed together new connections and juxtapositions are formed between the five movies.
